The much-awaited Boxing Day Test between India and Australia is set to make history as all tickets for the first day of the match are already sold out.
Cricket Australia confirmed the news, signaling high demand for this marquee clash.
This Boxing Day Test, which is the fourth match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, will be held at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) on December 26.
For the first time, a non-Ashes Boxing Day Test will witness a crowd of over 86,000 spectators, setting a record attendance that is expected to surpass the usual numbers seen in previous Boxing Day Tests excluding the Ashes series.
The MCG, with a seating capacity of almost 100,000, will host this historic event, which is sure to generate intense competition and atmosphere as two cricketing giants, India and Australia, battle it out on the field.
The ongoing series has generated immense demand for tickets from both fan bases. The second Test at Adelaide Oval had an attendance of over 36,000 on the first day, setting a new 12-year record for the venue.
Attendance milestones were further broken, with 50,186 spectators on the first day and 51,642 on the second day.
Similarly, the first two days at the Optus Stadium set new Test match attendance records in the city, with 31,302 on the first day and 32,368 on the second day.
The match, which lasted four days, attracted a total of 96,463 spectators, marking the second largest attendance ever in Perth and the largest at Perth Stadium.
It is pertinent to mention that the five-match Test series between India and Australia is currently tied at 1-1.
The visitors, under the captaincy of pacer Jasprit Bumrah, won the opening clash in Perth by 295 runs.
The Cummins-led Australian team made a huge comeback, winning the second Test in Adelaide by 10 wickets, with the match finishing in three days.
