BRISBANE: The opening day of the third Test between Australia and India was marred by persistent rain, which allowed just 13.2 overs here at the Gabba on Saturday.

The weather proved relentless, ending the day with 14 overs.

The day held nothing for cricket fans as only 28 runs were scored before the day was called off due to unfavorable weather conditions.

Sent in first to bat, Australia had their openers Usman Khawaja (19*) and Nathan McSweeney (4*) not out.

India failed to take wickets on the first day of the third Test.

Alongside Akash Deep, Ravindra Jadeja made his first appearance in the series, replacing spinner Ravichandran Ashwin.

The match was stopped for the first time after 5.3 overs. Khawaja returned to the pavilion with 13 runs off 22 balls.

Akash, who replaced Harshit Rana, conceded two runs in 3.2 overs. Some of his deliveries bounced unexpectedly, making things difficult for the batsmen.
