CAPE TOWN: South Africa wicketkeeper-batsman Heinrich Klaasen has been fined 15 per cent of his match fee for kicking at the stumps during the second ODI against Pakistan on Thursday, the International Cricket Council (ICC) announced ).

According to cricket’s governing body, Klaasen was found to have breached Article 2.2 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Player Support Personnel, which refers to the “abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment or accessories and accessories during an international match”.

The incident occurred on the last ball of the match, which saw the 33-year-old dismissed by Naseem Shah.

Klaasen, who fell painfully short of his century, expressed frustration at the dismissal by kicking the stumps.

In addition to the financial penalty, a demerit point was added to Klaasen’s disciplinary record, for whom it was the first offense in the last 24 months.

The right-handed batsman admitted the offense and accepted the sanction proposed by match referee Richie Richardson, denying the need for a formal hearing.

On-field umpires Alex Wharf and Lubabalo Gcuma, third umpire Nitin Menon and fourth umpire Allahuddien Palekar leveled the load.

It is pertinent to mention that South Africa faced an 81-run defeat in the second ODI against Pakistan.

The victory gave Pakistan an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series, with the final ODI scheduled to be played in Johannesburg on Sunday.
