BRISBANE: Josh Hazelwood is set to make his long-awaited return to Australia’s playing XI for the third Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, scheduled to begin here at the Gabba on Saturday.

The pacer, who missed the Adelaide Test due to fitness issues, will replace Scott Boland in the line-up.

This update comes as Australian captain Pat Cummins confirmed Hazelwood’s inclusion, stating: “It’s a difficult decision as Scott Boland played well in Adelaide but was unfortunately unable to keep his place.”

In the Pink Ball Test, Boland took two wickets in the first innings while three in the second.

Australia bounced back in style, defeating India by 10 wickets in the second Test with the help of stellar performances from the bowlers.

India, who showed promise in the first Test, struggled to replicate that form in the pink-ball challenge.

Travis Head was named man of the match for his brilliant knock of 140 runs in the first innings.

With the victory, Australia leveled the series at 1-1, setting the stage for a thrilling third Test at the Gabba.

Australia’s playing XI for the third Test against India:

Usman Khawaja, Nathan McSweeney, Marnus Labuschagne, Steve Smith, Travis Head, Mitch Marsh, Alex Carey (wk), Pat Cummins, Mitch Starc, Nathan Lyon, Josh Hazlewood
