KARACHI: Former Pakistan captain Rashid Latif has expressed his criticism over the selection of right-hand speedster Haris Rauf for the three-match T20I series against Zimbabwe.
Latif, while speaking on a YouTube channel, urged the Pakistan management to select Haris for the upcoming Test series against South Africa, stressing that the right-arm pacer is “unnecessarily” playing the Zimbabwe series.
“They should bring Haris for the Tests in South Africa. He is playing unnecessarily in these (Zimbabwe) T20Is,” Latif said.
“If you can take down Shaheen, Hasnain, Naseem and Babar, why not their main weapon, Haris Rauf? He’s the one who needs to rest right now,” he added.
The former wicketkeeper-batsman then shared that he is assured of Haris’ success in the two-match series against South Africa.
“He can be lethal in South Africa. I can guarantee his success, but I can’t say the same about other players,” concluded Latif.
For the unversed, Haris is the most experienced member of Pakistan’s squad for the T20I series against Zimbabwe, having made 76 appearances for the green shirts in the shortest format.
The right-hand pacer, since making his international debut in 2020, has been an important member of Pakistan’s white-ball team.
Haris, however, has only managed to represent Pakistan in one Test so far. His only appearance in the longer format was against England in 2022.
