KARACHI: A combined bowling and batting effort led Gulshan Gabroos to their third consecutive victory in the 4th season of the Karachi Tape Ball Premier League (KTPL) with a seven-wicket victory over Lyari Legends in the eighth match of the tournament here at the Moin Khan Academy on Wednesday -fair.
Legends captain Raza Chandio’s decision to bat first backfired as his team could only accumulate 78 runs and lose eight wickets in their first innings.
Leading the way was captain Chandio, who hit a four and four sixes on his way to an 11-ball 32.
Apart from him, only Dawood Suleman (14) and Qari Hameed (13) managed to accumulate double figures while the rest struggled against a disciplined bowling attack from Gabroos.
For Gabroos, Imran Abbas, Zabi Ullah and Abdul Salam claimed two wickets each while Jallat Khan took a scalp.
In response, Dawood Pathan’s cameo propelled Gabroos to amass 99/2 in their allotted six overs and acquire a useful 22-run lead.
Dawood hit four sixes on his way to the top score for the Gabroos with an unbeaten 37 off 19 deliveries, followed by captain Bahadur Ali and Ubaid Khan who scored 16 each.
Trailing by 22 runs, the Legends batting unit once again failed to rack up a massive total and managed just 75/5 in six overs to leave Gabroos chasing a modest 54.
Opening batsman Muzammil Kamoki was the standout batsman in the second innings, scoring 30 off 11 deliveries, while middle-order batsman Hameed took 11 balls for 24.
In the second innings, Jallat and Imran bagged two wickets each for the Gabroos while Salam picked one.
Chasing a modest target of 54 runs, the Gabroos comfortably won the winning runs, losing three wickets and seven balls to spare.
Openers Ahsan Chitta and Bahadur Ali were the top scorers in the run-up with 15 each, while Salman Khan contributed seven.
The three-wicket win strengthened Gulshan Gabroos’ grip at the top of the KTPL Season 4 standings with six points from three matches, while Lyari Legends slipped to last place with two defeats in as many matches.
