SYDNEY (Reuters) – Cricket Australia appointed experienced sports administrator Todd Greenberg as its new chief executive on Tuesday, replacing Nick Hockley after a sometimes tumultuous five-year period.
Greenberg was most recently the head of the Australian Cricket Association, representing players in negotiations with the national governing body.
He is also the former chief executive of Australia’s National Rugby League.
“Thanks to the work of the current administration, the game has solid foundations,” Greenberg said in a statement from Cricket Australia.
“I want to ensure we build on this momentum so that Australian cricket continues to thrive – from local parks to the country’s biggest stadiums.”
His predecessor, Hockley, announced his resignation in August after five difficult years in the top job.
He was involved in a bitter dispute with a major Australian TV network over cricket broadcasting rights.
The Englishman was also criticized for his handling of playmaker David Warner’s attempt to overturn a leadership ban.
