Clifton defeats Malir to defend Karachi Tape-ball Premier League title

KARACHI: Fahad Mian Chunnu’s 88-run knock coupled with Qadir Kashmiri’s figures of 3/47 saw Clifton Popular defeat Malir Malangs and win the 4th season of the Karachi Tape Ball Premier League here at the Moin Khan Academy on Sunday.

Popular captain Asad Shah’s decision to bat first bore fruit as his team amassed a formidable total of 91/4 in the first innings, with Fahad leading the attack.

The opening batsman hit three fours and four sixes on his way to a 15-ball 39, while his partner Asad played a supporting role with a 17-ball 29, made up of three fours and a six.

For the Malangs, Hazrat Umar and M Adil Qadeer could get a wicket each in the first innings.

In response, the Malangs could score 55/4 against a disciplined Popular bowling attack.

Ali Imran was the standout bowler for Popular in the first innings, taking two wickets for just three runs in one over, while Qadir Kashmiri and Asif Pathan contributed one wicket each.

Opener Umar Bajwa remained Popular’s top scorer in the first innings with his 12-ball 20 while the rest made meager contributions.

Leading by 36 runs, Popular posted a massive total of 130/3 on the board thanks to Fahad’s belligerent half-century.

He hit five fours and 10 sixes on his way to a 23-ball 88. The second best contribution came from middle-order batsman Hassan Qadeer, who made 12 for five.

Chasing a daunting target of 167 runs, the Malangs could only manage 84/3 in the allotted six overs and thus succumbed to an 82-run defeat.

Top-order batsman Mimran Khan remained the Malangs’ top scorer with 43 off 19 deliveries, with five fours and three sixes.

Qadir Kashmiri was Popular’s standout bowler in the second innings, taking two wickets for 28 runs in his two overs.

For his match-winning knock, Popular’s Fahad Mian Chunnu was named the best player on the field in the KTPL Season 4 final.
