Pakistan’s discarded wicketkeeper-batsman Azam Khan penned a cryptic story while reacting to Saim Ayub’s vicious knock against South Africa in the second T20I.
Taking to his Instagram account, the 26-year-old, who last played in the 2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, wrote: “When you give players consistent chances, that’s when they really get the opportunity to give their better”.
Earlier, the son of legendary wicketkeeper Moin Khan was rested in the T20 World Cup after below-par performances against debutants USA and in the T20I series against Ireland. The 26-year-old has been criticized for his fitness as well as his performance on the pitch.
Coming into the starting line-up, Saim Ayub top-scored for Pakistan with a 57-ball 98, which featured 11 fours and five sixes.
His knock helped Pakistan score 207 runs against the Proteas.
Following his efforts, Reeza Hendricks scored a thrilling century and led South Africa to a seven-wicket victory that put Saim’s knock in vain.
In early November, Saim impressed with the bat in the ODI series against Zimbabwe, also becoming the second Pakistani batsman after Shahid Afridi to score a century in less than 60 balls in the 50 over format.
The seven-wicket win helped South Africa close out the three-match series 2-0 with one game to spare.
The third match is scheduled for today, in Johannesburg.
With the conclusion of the T20I series, the two teams are scheduled to face each other in the ODI series from December 17 to 22.
