LAHORE: The Pakistan Super League (PSL) on Tuesday revealed that the much-awaited player draft for the upcoming 10th edition will be held on January 11, 2025.
Taking advantage of its social media, the famous league released a 26-second promotion with the caption: “The countdown begins”.
The video featured different television sets, which revealed the draft date of the next players.
Meanwhile, sources stated that another meeting will be held later this week to discuss matters related to the next edition of the league.
Details were also released that the registration process for national and foreign players will also begin this week.
It was reported last week that the six franchises suggested holding the PSL 10 player draft abroad, in England or Dubai, to increase the league’s popularity.
Franchises have also pushed to attract notable foreign players for the upcoming edition, especially those who went unnoticed in the recently held Indian Premier League (IPL) mega auction.
In response, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) ensured the inclusion of renowned foreign players.
The franchises further demanded that the PCB provide financial assistance in choosing the best foreign cricketers.
Furthermore, the teams’ representative also requested the PCB to contact the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) for the English player’s participation in the next edition of the PSL.
Remember, the ECB has decided not to issue No Objection Certificate (NOC) to domestic cricketers for participating in foreign franchise leagues that conflict with the domestic season.
The decision is likely to result in a significant decline in English players’ participation in the Pakistan Super League (PSL), the next edition of which will clash with the domestic season due to the 2025 ICC Men’s Champions Trophy.
Notably, the upcoming 10th edition of the PSL is expected to be held simultaneously with the cash-rich IPL for the first time since its inception in 2016.
The PSL, normally held in the February-March window each year, will take place between April and May next year, a window already taken over by rival league IPL.
The schedule change comes after Pakistan hosts the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy, scheduled to take place in the league’s usual window next year.
