HARARE: Batsman Ben Curran on Monday received his first Zimbabwe call-up for the three-match ODI series against Afghanistan scheduled to take place from December 17 to 21.
Ben, the brother of English cricketers Sam and Tom who previously shared his intentions to represent Zimbabwe, will follow in the footsteps of his late father Kevin Curran.
“Curran, 28, has earned his place following stellar performances in domestic cricket,” Zimbabwe Cricket said in a statement.
“He is the son of the late Kevin Curran, former Zimbabwe international and coach, and also the brother of England internationals Tom and Sam Curran,” the statement added.
Notably, Ben played first-class cricket for Northamptonshire from 2018 to 2022 before moving to Zimbabwe.
The left-handed batsman has emerged as the leading run-scorer in Zimbabwe’s domestic 50-over and red-ball competitions.
Reacting to his brother’s selection in the Zimbabwe squad, Sam, who won the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup with England, expressed his enthusiasm for the development.
“Such special news, couldn’t be happier for you, BC,” wrote Sam on X, formerly Twitter.
“Someone will be looking down with a big smile on their face today,” he added.
The three matches will be played exclusively in Harare, with matches scheduled for December 17th, 19th and 21st.
