SYLHET: Laura Delany’s unbeaten 36 runs led Ireland to a fascinating four-wicket victory over Bangladesh in the third T20I and a 3-0 series clean sheet here at the Sylhet Stadium on Monday.
Set to chase 124, the touring side struck the target in the penultimate delivery of the innings thanks to a 36-run knock from Delany, which included three consecutive boundaries in the final over when Ireland needed 15 runs to win.
“I’m delighted with how it all turned out, but even more happy for the team,” said Delany. “We have played some very good cricket in this T20I series and to finish with a win today shows everyone what we are capable of.
“Young people inspire me. They are fearless and have an aggressive nature. It’s something I try and strive to emulate with my own game, but there’s a lot of work to do there.”
In addition to Delany, Amy Hunter (28) and captain Gaby Lewis (21) made notable contributions.
Batting first, the home team could only amass 123/7 in the allotted 20 overs as all-rounder Orla Prendergast dismantled their batting unit with a four-wicket haul.
Prendergast had an incredible series with the ball, taking 10 wickets and being named player of the series.
“We showed how good a team we are in each of those three games,” said Prendergast as he accepted the Player of the Series award after Ireland’s nerve-racking chase. “And what a finish, that’s the best way to finish.
“Every game we played, different players stood up and raised their hands. It’s a great place to be on our team, to have so many good players throughout our batting lineup and so many pitchers that have come in. and change the game.”
