MELBOURNE: Indian captain Rohit Sharma faced an injury scare during a training session at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) ahead of the fourth Test against Australia scheduled for December 26.
Despite sustaining a blow during the session, Sharma initially continued batting but soon opted for medical attention after feeling discomfort.
According to reports, the right-handed batsman took off his equipment and settled into a chair while the team’s physiotherapist applied an ice pack to his leg.
“The Indian captain took off his equipment, sat down on a chair and the physiotherapist removed the ice pack. There was visible pain on the right-hander’s face when the backpack was put on, and the physiotherapist later placed his left leg on a chair to place Rohit in a comfortable position,” the report read.
The injury, however, is not considered serious.
“The blow did not appear that serious, and the physiotherapist is taking precautions to ensure that the swelling, if any, goes down. There is still some time left for the Boxing Day Test to begin and Rohit is hoping the pain goes away,” he added.
The 37-year-old has had a challenging journey in the Border-Gavaskar series.
He missed the first Test due to the birth of his son, during which Jasprit Bumrah led the team to a stunning 295-run victory as stand-in captain.
Sharma returned for the second Test, batting at No. 6, but was dismissed for just three runs.
His struggles continued in the third Test, where he failed to make a significant impact.
