KUALA LAMPUR: Batsman Gongadi Trisha’s anchoring half-century coupled with a combined bowling effort saw India defeat Bangladesh by 41 runs and win the inaugural edition of the ACC Women’s Under-19 T20 Asian Cup here at Bayuemas Oval in Sunday.
Put into bat first, India posted a formidable total of 117/7 in their allotted 20 overs, thanks to Trisha’s anchoring knock.
The right-handed opener oversaw India’s batting expedition until the 16th over and returned after top scoring with 52 off 47 deliveries, studded with five fours and two sixes.
She was instrumental in India’s recovery from a poor start as they were reduced to 25/2 in five overs.
Trisha was also involved in an important 41-run third-wicket partnership with captain Niki Prasad, who also made a notable contribution with a cautious 12 for 21.
After his dismissal, Mithila Vinod took over the reins of India’s batting command and added valuable runs at the crease with a 17 off 12 balls.
Farjana Easmin was Bangladesh’s standout bowler, recording brilliant figures of 4/31 in her four overs, while Nishita Akter Nishi struck twice.
In response, Bangladesh’s batting unit floundered for a meager 76 in 18.3 overs and thus succumbed to a grueling defeat in the high-stakes encounter.
Middle-order batsman Juairiya Ferdous remained the team’s top scorer with 30 balls and 22, followed by wicketkeeper Fahomida Choya who made 18 off 24 deliveries.
Apart from them, none of the Bangladesh batsmen managed to accumulate double figures, highlighting their struggles against a disciplined Indian bowling attack.
Aayushi Shukla was the pick of the Indian bowlers, taking three wickets for just 17 runs in her 3.3 overs, while Sonam Yadav and Parunika Sisodia took two wickets each.
For her winning knock, Gongadi Trisha was named the best player in the 2024 U-19 Women’s Asian Cup final.
